Biopolymers are a dynamically developing direction — technologies, regulations and brand expectations are changing. In Helvicon news we show how these trends translate into specific projects: from tests on production lines, to implementations at film and packaging manufacturers, to new legal requirements and research results. This is the place for everyone who wants to consciously plan the next steps towards sustainable materials.

Together with the manufacturer of packaging for fresh herbs, we conducted a pilot of a compostable film based on potato starch. The material retained the required strength and comfort of use, and the packages gained a new, “green” differentiator on the shelf. Thanks to the test data, the client was able to integrate the project into ESG strategy and brand communication. The next stage is the gradual expansion of the use of biopolymer to subsequent product lines.

We describe the results of testing mulch film and pots made from Helvicon biopolymers. These solutions make growing easier, and after the season they can be directed to the appropriate composting processes. Farms gain the convenience of working, less waste and communication arguments to consumers who are increasingly asking about sustainable practices in agriculture.

In this article we explain how the latest European requirements for packaging and the circular economy affect the choice of plastics. We show in which applications biopolymers facilitate the fulfillment of legal and climate objectives. We have also prepared a short checklist for R&D and purchasing departments to help assess whether a given packaging design is ready for regulatory changes.

We take a closer look at the Helvicon team's cooperation with Telmax Group experts related to construction. The combination of knowledge of biopolymers and experience from large investments allows you to plan implementations in the long term. Partners receive stable production facilities, design support and a clear path for the development of the material portfolio — from the first tests to the full commercialization of new solutions.

Plastic pollution is accelerating the shift in feedstock choices, particularly in fast-moving consumer goods and single-use applications such as packaging, food films, and bags. Bioplastics are playing an increasingly important role here: polymer materials produced from renewable plant-based feedstocks.

Today’s industry faces a different challenge than it did decades ago: how to engineer materials that meet technical requirements while reducing dependence on fossil-based feedstocks. As conventional plastics are gradually being phased down, increasing attention is being given to renewable raw materials that can serve as the basis for modern alternatives.
